Hate Crime
Hate crime is any
incident perceived to have been committed against any person or property on the
grounds of a particular person's ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity,
religion or disability, whether it amounts to a crime or not it is
still referred to as a hate crime. Hate crime can take many forms, including: verbal
abuse, physical assault, intimidation and damage to property.

Specific Incidents
- Religious Incidents. "Any incident perceived to be on the grounds of religion or faith by the victim or any other person."
- Race and Racist Incidents. "Any incident perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person."

Surrey Police Statement on Hate Crime
Surrey Police will not tolerate any form of Hate Crime and will speedily respond, investigate, identify and prosecute offenders to the satisfaction of the victim and the community, thereby seeking to reduce repeat victimisation.
Surrey Police recognise the reluctance of some victims to come forward to police for a variety of reasons. We are committed to identifying and prosecuting perpetrators. Reporting incidents to police provides essential information which enables us to prevent further incidents taking place and to identify those responsible. Our policy is to fully record and exhaustively investigate all forms of Hate Crime. We will give high priority to the investigation of Hate crime and a full range of investigative and forensic tactices will be employed.
How to Report Hate Crime
You can
report Hate Crime in confidence by selecting the method of your choice. The options
include:
- Call 999 in an emergency
- Through this website, using our short, secure and confidential form. You can choose to remain anonymous if you wish.
- By calling Surrey Police on 101
- By calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
What happens if I report on line?
Anonymous Reporting
If you report anonymously on line, then a report will be recorded and actioned within our intelligence systems. This will enable Surrey Police to understand where Hate Crime is occurring and target those persons responsible. You will not be contacted but will be provided with a transaction reference number to confirm your report has been submitted.
Personal Reporting
If you willing to provide your personal details, then you will be contacted by a member of Surrey Police staff, by your preferred means of contact. A crime report will be created and will be allocated to an investigating officer for investigation with the support of a Hate Crime Coordinator. You will be provided with an initial transaction number to confirm your report has been submitted. Both methods of reporting will enable Surrey Police to be more effective in tackling Hate Crime.

Hate crime is wrong and victims do not have to put up with it.
